If you're setting out on a forest adventure with children, the 'Raubschlössl Trail' in Vintl is the perfect place to start. This scenic route through 'Winnebach Valley' reveals the wilder side of nature – complete with a trickling mountain stream, mysterious woodland paths, and the ruins of a real castle.
The trail begins at the hydroelectric station in Obervintl, just above the 'Obermoarhof'. From there, the path winds gently through the forest toward Terenten, passing a climbing garden and heading into the heart of 'Winnebach Valley'. The destination: the legendary 'Winnebach Castle', also known as the “Raubschlössl” or 'Robber’s Castle'! Once a noble hunting lodge, it is said to have been a former hideout for bandits in the Middle Ages. Today, the remaining walls fire the imaginations of little knights, adventurers, and princesses alike.
The return journey leads across meadows, past farms, and through wide open landscapes, with plenty of spots to rest, marvel at the stunning views, or enjoy a picnic.
If you have more time, you can choose the longer trail of 4.8 km, which takes about two hours to complete. The shorter version of 2.8 km, is perfect for a relaxed walk immersed in nature, stories, and plenty of pace for playing.
