Fane Alm – an alpine village straight out of a picture book

It lies there as if frozen in time – the Fane Alm in the Valser Valley. Nestled in a lush green meadow, surrounded by mountains, this is a genuine alpine village with shingle-roofed residential and hay huts, a small church, and rustic alpine taverns. It is hardly surprising that this place, considered one of the most beautiful alpine villages, has often been used as a film set.

In the Middle Ages, the Fane Alm was a hospital for plague and cholera patients – today it is a peaceful place of power that inspires families and those seeking tranquility alike. The path to the alpine pasture leads along the so-called Milchsteig (milk trail): a leisurely themed trail that is not only scenic but also exciting in terms of content – especially for children. Here you can learn all kinds of interesting facts about milk, cheese, and cows.

In summer, over 300 cows graze on the Fane Alm, and the scent of hay and fresh milk hangs in the air. You can stop off at the alpine taverns and taste the “Valler Gold,” the farm's own cheese, right there on the spot.

For families with small children, the short, stroller-friendly walk from the upper parking lot is well worth it. And if you're up for more, you can enjoy the three-kilometer-long Milchsteig trail from the Berg am Boden parking lot to the fullest – including a picnic on the banks of the stream.

The Fane Alm is the ideal place to relax from everyday life and immerse yourself in the South Tyrolean mountains – surrounded by nature, tradition, and history.
