A Day at Bergila: Scents, Herbs & Timeless Craftsmanship

When your day smells of fresh herbs and warm tree resin, chances are you’ve been to 'Bergila'. Nestled between green forests and the serene Issinger Weiher, this family-run herb farm is more than just a place – it’s a sensory experience where nature not only grows, but heals and inspires.

Since 1912, the Niederkofler family has been running Bergila with heart and tradition, combining deep botanical knowledge with skilled handcraft. The herb garden surrounding the farm is a true feast for the senses, bursting with colors, shapes, and scents – all organically grown and tended to according to the moon calendar.

Especially in high summer, the air is filled with the heady scent of lavender, arnica, and marigold. Each plant has a story to tell. Collected, distilled, and lovingly processed using pure spring water, they become essential oils, ointments, and tinctures – crafted with care and intuition.

A highlight is the traditional pine oil distillery right next door: here, essential oils are gently extracted from mountain pine and juniper in old copper kettles. It’s a slow, mindful process that values quality over quantity.

In summer, visitors can take guided tours, join a herbal workshop to discover the healing powers of local plants, or simply browse the shop and take home the little bottles of nature.

'Bergila' is one of those peaceful places where time seems to slow down – a location where you can dwell a little longer than planned, just to breathe, look around, and reconnect to nature’s quiet energy.
